What is the role of technology in design and media art?

Hi there I am trying to apply to school, and am a little confused as to what program I want to apply to, there are schools that are more fine arts based, and ones that are more technologically based. So I curious to know what role technology plays in the design and media art field? If you could please be as specific as possible I would love it. Or if you have a link that could help explain some stuff I would appreciate that too. Thanks so much. I hope you can help me figure out where to go from here.

Technology has a huge effect on today's design world. Web design for example is something relatively new and it takes a lot of knowledge on code and it created a bunch of jobs and businesses for those who are skilled in it. Animation is another art field completely effected by technology changes. Animation is mostly created by computers now and is rarely done by hand, when it used to be completely 2D. Film is also an art that changes with growing technological advances. Film creation is more accessible nowadays and new cameras make shots look even better without the use of long painstaking setups and great lighting. There are so many other changes in art but just by naming a few, you can see how technology has progressed hand in hand with art.

How do I get started in information technology?

Posted on January 6, 2009
By admin in technology

I'm in grade 12 and I want to know what education I need to get into an IT career.

I live in Toronto, Canada and there are only 2 Universities (outside the city) that offer a Bachelor of Information Technology.

There are three colleges in my area that offer diplomas for Systems Technology, Systems Technician, Information Systems Business Analyst, and Networking.

Is it better to get a diploma from college or a degree to get started in information technology?
Is there any other way of starting an IT career?

get certifications first… then worry about getting a degree… seriously a well certified guy is almost always better and more valuable then a guy with a diploma… what part of IT do you want to get into? it really is a broad field.
start by studying for a+ then decide if you want to do windows admin network admin DBA (oracle sql etc) or development or whatever… there are certs for all of these paths… just go down the path and you will do ok…

What technology would I need to alert a gadget of something specific in its vicinity?

I am trying to work out wjat type of technology I would need to send a signal (warning) that a specific item is in range of an item say 5 meters. Like a transmitter and receiver type devise. Any ideas?

1) video capture. If the picture changes, alert the device.
2) infrared. send out a pulse of infrared light. wait for it’s reflection. Measure the time delay and divide by 2 to get distance.
3) proximity (capacitive). As the dielectric changes due to foreign objects between / near two plates, the capacitance changes.
4) ultrasonic. just like infrared, but uses sound too high to hear.
5) RF. radiate a radio signal. Watch for its reflection from metal objects.

What type of technology and how does it work to sweep for hidden electronic devices?

How do they find hidden microphone or other devices and how does it work technologicaly speaking and how do they applied the method of searches in order to get results.

Is it like a radar type deal thing? I can't hardly imagine that it is a very advance technology. In fact I'm pretty sure it is somewhat simple and cheap.
How is it called?
How such device is called?

All electronic devices generate electromagnetic signal. Other electronic devices like sensor can monitor/sweep electromagnetic signal. This devices are simple and cheap, but for make devices with high performance need other electronic circuits and cost.

What are a few examples of technology that can be powered by solar energy?

I'm doing a science project. What are some examples of technology we use often that can be powered by the sun?

- Photovoltaics, which provides electricity to anything that needs it.
- Solar Water Heaters, which provide hot water for a home and are very cost-effective.
- Cars! About 20 universities participate in the American Solar Challenge to build and race cars powered only by solar energy.
- Cooking, particularly in the developing world.
- Photosynthesis, which is pretty important to everything. :D

What advances in technology effect our social life?

I want to not focus on the information age, such as computers and internet, but instead focus on things such as robots, and physical technology.

An example I have so far are roller coasters, without technology they would not be safe and not run.

Anyone have any other ideas?

artificial limbs
pace makers
new medication
incubators
neonatal intensive care units
car seats

What the difference between electrical engineering and electrical technology engineering?

Posted on November 26, 2008

whats the difference between the two? What kind of jobs are available to the technology one, and which is more likely to get hired? How much more do engineers make then technology majors ? are Electrical technology really engineers ?

According to this:
Students of electrical engineering technology learn the design, drafting, and technical skills they need to assist engineers and put engineering ideas into action.

It sounds like the technology version is more like an AS degree, so you can help an engineer. A technician really. If you are the helper, you always make less. How much is relative, but in CA a new BS. EE can expect anywhere from $55-$65k to start. So the AS degree will only get you into the upper $20k to mid $30k.

There is a huge difference between a technician and an engineer. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of very smart technicians, who can out design some engineers I’ve met. But typically a technician can design stuff as a hobby, but an engineers designs need to be production proof, having no component tolerance issues over 10k to millions of units.
That’s why they get paid the big bucks.

What are some examples of fluid technology?

Posted on November 26, 2008

I need to know some examples of fluid technology - at least 10 - for a school project. I had a sheet with examples but we haven't had school for the last two days and it's in my locker.

Somebody help?
I searched all the major search engines and I just got company names and things like that. I know that one example would be hydraulic brakes.

there is a long list:

What new invention would you create with an already existing technology?

What new invention would you create with an already existing technology?

For example, some new technologies have been already invented such as sunglasses with a build-in mp3 player. What other new invention can be created like this?

An active power factor correction system using a bank of switched capacitors and inductors. The switches would be semiconductors (MOSFETs or IGBTs) for maximum efficiency.

How has technology changed the way people work nowdays?

How has the new developing technology, improved people’s working styles and conditions, and how it has affected them?

Now I can spend my free time playing on the internet rather than talking to stupid co-workers.
