How do you hook up 3 computers to the same internet connection?

Posted on September 24, 2008

I have been trying to look for some information about it on google but offered no help. So I thought I would ask here. But I have 3 computers that i want to hook up to the same internet connection via DSL the confusing part is 2 of them are regular desktops and one is a laptop that can have wireless. Two of the computers are upstairs so i don’t see how it is possible without wires going everywhere. PLEASE HELP! Any Information is well Appreciated.

What brand/model DSL modem? If your DSL modem only has a single port, it might only support 1 computer by itself even if it is a modem/router that handles the PPPoE.

The simple way if you had a phone line upstairs would be to put the modem and added broadband wireless router near the 2 PC’s. If you cannot do that, you might need both a wireless router and something to wirelessly bridge that to the 2 PC’s.

Many ISP’s have an option to get a DSL modem that is a wireless router all in one unit. I have one of those, so I use a Zyxel P-330W router (which has 4 ethernet ports) in “wireless client bridge mode” to remotely connect my wired desktop and old laptop to that. Not all routers can act as a wireless client or bridge (most Linksys routers need 3rd party dd-wrt firmware to do that).

Another option is to get a wireless USB device for each desktop.

A regular wireless bridge is probably more expensive and only has 1 port, which would also require a switch for 2 PC’s

Yes, they completely have effect on human brains.

About this problem:

First is being *Chronic user of computer, so much addiction may lead you, anxiety causing you to use computer too much.

*Chronic means -addiction.

Second is it may affect your studies,

According to researchers, they found out that UV rays of computer may give human brains, somewhat disorder.

like being, *bird minded, hot tempered.

*bird minded means - your mind flies, lost of concentration.

In our house, we have a couple computers. Is it possible to set up and control parental controls from a single main computer (XP) that connects to the rest of the computers, monitors them, and puts on restrictions?

I think this is possible. The following link could be helpful to you

How computers work (in terms of electricity and voltage)?

Posted on September 16, 2008
By admin in computers

I am writing a paper on binary numbers and how they make a computer work. I understand binary numbers and how they are used to represent data. However, I am having trouble finding information on how computers use binary numbers to work. I have found that it is somehow related to voltage but I need a better understanding to write a good paper. Do you know of any good resources available to explain this? Or what keywords to use when googling?

Thanks for any help

Time to look up "boolean logic", "logic gates", followed by "FPGA", and then "CPU".

Once you understand binary numbering, the next step is binary logic. Transistors are wired together to make logic gates, which basically take one or more bits (binary digits) and produce an output.

Logic gates are how a computer can make decisions.

For example, a gate called "and" looks at two (or more) input bits, and if all bits are "1", the gate (transistor circuit) generates a "1" output. If any input is "0", the output is "0".

There's also "or" and "not" gates. By combining these 3 gates in different combinations, (including feeding them back into each other), all kinds of circuits can be made: adders, multipliers, flip-flops, memory cells, registers, and even an entire CPU.

you have to log on to the router and remove access hours for the computer;s ip address that you do not want access to the internet

How do I set up two computers to allow incoming remote desktop connections on my network?

Posted on September 11, 2008

I have a bunch of computers on my network. I have configured my router to route any incoming remote desktop connection to my server. However, I want to be able to remote in to another one of my machines too. If I add that to the list additionally, how is the router going to know which machine I want to route in to. How do I configure my router to allow me to remote in to more than one computer on my network ? I have a DLink DIR - 655 router.

You’ll need additional global IP addresses from your ISP, then use a static NAT for each host inside.

How can I see what sites other computers on my network are accessing?

How can I see what sites other computers on my network are accessing?
The nework is on a router which i am connected to. Without installing software on the other computers.

The easiest way is to log into your router. Consult your manual for the user name and password, and keep it handy. Then open up your favorite browser, and type in “192.168.1.1″, or “192.168.1.0″, and enter in the login information. At this point the steps differ for different routers. Mine, for example, you click “Logs” on the menu, and it has a page where you can view which computers accessed which site, and you can even have it email you the log on a regular basis.

What has contributed more to the advancement of society, computers, cars or communication devices?

Posted on September 8, 2008
By admin in computers

No cars? It would take a long time for a computer to ever get to us.
No computers? Well, none of you would be reading this.
No communication devices (phones, telegrams, etc)? Well, it would take a lot of driving around in our cars to let each other know what's going on.

Of course, computers.

Modern communication devices are, in reality, small computers.

And, cars couldn't run without their myriad computer chips.

Of course, there is a chicken and egg paradox within your question, but I still pick computers.

How do you network individual computers together to make one combined computer that is much better?

Posted on September 5, 2008

I have heard about computers being networked together in some fashion and am wondering how to do it myself. If this really is possible, are there any restriction, and how would I go about connecting them together. I am really hoping to find out how to do this because I have 4 old computers lying around that combined would have a 4GHz processor and over 3 GB of RAM. Please help!

It's not easy. Called clustered computing, requires technical skills, and the right stuff. You could start by looking at http://www.beowulf.org/ but honestly i don't think it's a great idea. You would need also programs that make use of that clustered solution…. and stay sure it's not office or any game.
OS X has XGrid, that makes thing less effort taking (the client is pre installed on every 10.4 machine), and it's simple to manage. Then again, you need to have software that makes use of that thing, and there is none, unless you write it yourself, suiting it to your needs.
