What the difference between electrical engineering and electrical technology engineering?

Posted on November 26, 2008
By admin in technology

whats the difference between the two? What kind of jobs are available to the technology one, and which is more likely to get hired? How much more do engineers make then technology majors ? are Electrical technology really engineers ?

According to this:
Students of electrical engineering technology learn the design, drafting, and technical skills they need to assist engineers and put engineering ideas into action.

It sounds like the technology version is more like an AS degree, so you can help an engineer. A technician really. If you are the helper, you always make less. How much is relative, but in CA a new BS. EE can expect anywhere from $55-$65k to start. So the AS degree will only get you into the upper $20k to mid $30k.

There is a huge difference between a technician and an engineer. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of very smart technicians, who can out design some engineers I’ve met. But typically a technician can design stuff as a hobby, but an engineers designs need to be production proof, having no component tolerance issues over 10k to millions of units.
That’s why they get paid the big bucks.

What are some examples of fluid technology?

Posted on November 26, 2008

I need to know some examples of fluid technology - at least 10 - for a school project. I had a sheet with examples but we haven't had school for the last two days and it's in my locker.

Somebody help?
I searched all the major search engines and I just got company names and things like that. I know that one example would be hydraulic brakes.

there is a long list:

What new invention would you create with an already existing technology?

What new invention would you create with an already existing technology?

For example, some new technologies have been already invented such as sunglasses with a build-in mp3 player. What other new invention can be created like this?

An active power factor correction system using a bank of switched capacitors and inductors. The switches would be semiconductors (MOSFETs or IGBTs) for maximum efficiency.

How has the new developing technology, improved people’s working styles and conditions, and how it has affected them?

Now I can spend my free time playing on the internet rather than talking to stupid co-workers.

What kind of touchscreen technology is behind touchscreens that only register presses with a stylus?

Posted on November 12, 2008
By admin in technology

These kind of touchscreen kiosks are at just about every supermarket now– when you pay for your purchase with a debit card for instance, you must make selections as to “cash back” and “correct total,” in addition to inputting your PIN number.

These screens have never worked for me by simply pressing them with my fingers. I always have to pick up and use the rubber-tipped stylus.

What is the technology driving this type of touchscreen interface?

I think the LCD type screen uses a touch sensitive web or fabric underneath to detect the touch from the stylus however the type of touch or multi touch screen which is licensed to companies like Apple for use on the iPhone or iPod touch uses Haptic touch technology.

More info here

Haptic touch and multi touch/gesturing are the next steps of touch screens which are being pioneered by Apple

Apple bought a company called Finger Works a few years back who are pioneers in multi touch and gesturing technology

What new technology or predictions has Creation science produced and independently verified?

What independent branches of science has made predictions that matches Creation Science’s predictions or technology produced?

Valid scientific theory must make predictions that can be verified. And further, results in new technology. What predictions has creation science made that has been independently verified?

Oh, there was that bit in the bible where Jesus turned dihydrogen monoxide into ethyl alcohol… or the part where he walked on surface tension… oh wait… its just a story…………….. P.S. please learn how to use grammar correctly.

What positive effects will technology have on our future?

Posted on November 7, 2008

When I say technology, I mean things like: Smartphones (able to navigate you to an open parking spot or let you know where traffic is), autonomous vehicles (the driverless cars which particiapted in a 102 mile race completely driven off of its own decisions), and any other piece of technology that may relate to the previous examples.

Well you can say more updated things
Like the cars into hovercrafts and so on
We, meaning us americans will probably have a advance society due to technology more than half of the time

I'm a sophmore in highschool and i'm greatly interested in the science fields, and was wondering what are the different types of science majors.

You could get a bachelors(BS) in the following disciplines in Science:

Biology
Mathematics
Nursing
Medicine
Kinesiology
Physics
Anatomy
Physiology
Genetics
Zoology
Geology
Musicology

Colleges and Universities are creating new degree programs so what I listed here is just a taste of the many degrees you can get in one subject

What if technology was completely different?

Posted on November 6, 2008

I was just wondering what if technology was completely different from how it is today. Not based off of electricity to send information but hell something like water. I have a hard time thinking about this because Im so immersed and familiar in the technology we already have, so its hard to imagine.

Its like asking, what would technology be like on an alien planet without electricity? Sort of.

Its all just speculation but please give me something feasible that I can imagine. And no this has nothing to do with the environment and the "going green" movement

Electricity has two main functions. One is for digital switching which makes computers possible. The other is as a power source. Remember, we use electricity in almost every type of technology. While chemical reactions and photons are both capable of supplying energy, storing memory, and performing binary operations, electricity is probably 1000x more efficient than chemical reactions or photons. The probability that a civilization would reach a level of technology anywhere near ours and not have discovered (and adopted) electricity is very small.

However, there is the possibility that a civilization far more advanced than ours may have little need for electricity because they have discovered better alternatives, such as photons (which we employ to a degree today) or some kind of quantum particle interactions which we don't even understand yet.

But it is highly doubtful that a civilization could evolve without going through an "electricity stage" and also somewhat improbable (imho) that a civilization would ever get so advanced that they abandoned electricity completely.

How can students and teachers use technology to help protect the environment?

(technology provides powerful tools to learn about how to protect the environment)
and I need help with practical ideas for an essay I have to write.

I’m a bit confuse with the question. It is correct that our technology has developed significantly and there are some proofs how technology can help to protect the environment. Solar panels, hybrid cars, and wind turbines are some examples.

However, if you want to start something in your community, then you can start with small and simple things. Unplug electronic devices after usage in school, turn off monitor if you leave your desktop, and turn off light after class hour. Perhaps you can ask student to submit their assignments in soft copy (pdf format) instead of printing so you can save paper usage. You also can collaborate with your local recycling program if it is available. If you do small things collectively, then you can achieve greater things. The blog below may give you some ideas of what has happened around the world to save our environment.
