Why Web 2.0 is not just for geeks but is important to you the marketer?

What is Mashups,APIs,Widgestisation and Web 2.0? and what is the consideration behind the scenes?

The term web 2.0 itself is still open to debate, for a lot of Internet specialists it doesn't mean anything.
The general idea behind web 2.0 is its social dimension. Whereas Internet used to be only used by companies displaying content for passive users, today anybody can be an Internet contributor. All the blogs, forums and chatrooms are typically web 2.0 oriented because they are participative, allow for social networking and give people a way to express themselves and have their voice heard.
Sites like wikipedia, Flickr or YouTube are web 2.0 sites because they rely on user generated content, i.e. content that is created and provided by Internet users and not only companies or Internet specialists.
For marketers, this is an important thing and for many reasons:
- it opens the door to new marketing possibilites, such as viral marketing or more targeted messages addressed to influent people and opinion leaders identified in those social networks
- it fastens the diffusion of information, so a bad new concerning a company is quickly known worldiwde
- Internet users trust their peers much more than a CEO or a company's spokesman, which will ultimately lead companies to stop bullshiting and realize that they no longer talk to passive and naive consumers!

Why are people so prejudiced against video game systems?

Posted on August 31, 2008
By admin in video game systems

In the end, it's the quality of games you play, not the console they are on. But people are so adament about their particuler system that they make fun of, berate, and put down every other system. Why can't they just own all of them?

Why do they have to be angry all the time just because someone doesn't like their system.
Every game console has something different to bring to the table, that's what makes each one unique. But one is not better than the other!

because people inherently want o engage in a p!ssing match over meaningless stuff. it's prety rearded behavior but these are people that don't leave mommy'and daddy's basement

How are video games created at home? And Is there a website that shows how to create video games?

Greetings to whoever may be reading this question. I would be very grateful if the reader has enough knowledge to answer this question.
Well, I had always dreamt of creating video games (both software and hardware) after I have finished University. But in the country where I come from (ie) Nigeria, there are extremely few people that have any idea on this question. So I want to ask, is there any expert that can give me a few giudelines as answers to the questions written above? I would be very grateful bcos this would help boost up my dream career.

There are several programs that will game developers use in modeling for video games, but there's alot of other stuff that goes into the making of a video game. All kinds of lines of code and God knows what.

Here's an FAQ about game development.

3ds Max is last time I checked the leading program used in modeling.

I hope all that helps.

Why the electronic gadgets should fail when the power fails or resumes?

Posted on August 31, 2008
By admin in gadgets

In our industry i am facing a peculiar problem. Some of the electronic gadgets like drives, power cards, control cards, electronic chokes etc, irrespective of capacity, are failing frequently when ever the power fails or resumes.

This is from something called transients. They are voltage spikes that can be many times that of the nominal voltage. They may last for only very small time periods (µS) but are devastating to electronics.

Transients are very difficult to prevent and can be caused by switching on the transmission system or lightning.

You can fit surge protectors to small devices or use isolation transformers for larger equipment to help protect it. There are are many power quality meters available to buy or rent that will record "out of range" events if you want to challenge your power supplier.

How do I network music folders between 3 computers?

Posted on August 31, 2008
By admin in computers

Me and my roommates have 3 computers, 2 are connected with wireless, and the other one is plugged into the router. 2 have vista and one has XP. How can i make the music folders on each computer shared, so I can just drag songs off the other computers onto mine? I tried networking it and it always ask for a password to access the other computers. How would I do this using XP and Vista ? Thanks!

You can try foldershare
http://www.foldershare.com

This program syncs folders between multiple computers and whats kinda cool is that you can invite ANYONE to access your files. However, you can define what kind of access he/she has. I run an anime group with it, and of course I want my admins and contributers to have write rights, but I don't want the people who just download to have delete or change or add rights. It works rather well. You could each share your music folders with each other, or you could make one massive folder.

On a side note, foldershare is a great way to share things like My Documents across multiple computers. I have 5 computers and it is nice to have all my documents on every machine.

What is even cooler is that I have a remote machine set up and all it does is download my documents and music. Then, if I ever have to wipe a computer, I just install foldershare and point everything to the folders I want them to go to. In about an hour, i have everything back.

How will technology give alternative ways for sports fans to enjoy a game beyond watching on television?

what if there was a projection dome theatre similar to the one used on soarin over california at disneys california adventure that put you into the stadium of your favorite team or any major sporting event for that matter that you would otherwise be unable to attend because of geographic location or price of tickets? Do you think technology could make the experience authentic enough and would you be interested in it if it could?

Yes & yes!

How are each one of you using Web 2.0 to your advantage?

I have become obsessed with learning to make use of the Web 2.0 tools to get more organized and to feed my long planned blogging efforts (on financial and political subjects). I want to know how others are using Web 2.0 tools, and in what combinations. Do you use De.licio.us? Do you use Digg? Do you use Yahoo's My Web and Bookmarks or the new Netscape? Well, in sum, I want to know how other serious readers and surfers organize their information and newsfeeds. Thanks.

I'm making good use of the Web 2.0 services available.

Del.icio.us for my bookmarks
Youtube for my videos
Flickr for my photos
Box.net for my files
Odeo.com for my audio/podcasts
Google Calendar for my calendar needs
Last.fm for my music needs
Digg for daily tech news etc.
Writely.com for my word processing

and the list goes on. I don't think I could honestly live without these tools, they've become pretty much a need :D

Can Japanese versions of video game systems play US and European games?

Posted on August 30, 2008
By admin in video game systems

I am asking this because I plan to buy Japanese versions of PS3 and Xbox 360 systems and I wonder if they would play American games or just let out another "The game you're playing in this system doesn't work" screen.

No, its the same as if you had an American ps3 or 360 and you tried to play a Japanese game. It wouldn't work. Only way would be to get a mod chip or try to edit your own system.
